Why Hady Mirza Is The Asian Idol?
December 17th, 2007 by admin | Filed under Music. There are some factors that make Hady Mirza the Asian Idol.
Since Mike, Jaclyn and Mau are the judges’ favorites and Hady Mirza is the judges’ least favorite, people from Indonesia, Malaysia and Philippines won’t vote for each other. This make them decided to vote for their home idol and the least favorite idol. Since every countries will most probably vote Singapore for the second country, they thought they will not make Hady the Asian Idol. So if each smses from each country added together, Indonesia, Malaysia, India, Philippines and Vietnam will get 1 vote plus 1 lucky vote from Singapore, while Singapore will get 6 votes.
As the population size is removed, bigger countries need more votes to match every single vote from Singapore. With the roughly total population are 1560 million people, I got this equation:
3 Singaporeans = 17 Malaysians = 55 Vietnam = 55 Philippines = 150 Indonesians = 717 Indians
To get 1 real Asian vote, Malaysia need 6 Malaysian’s votes, Vietnam and Philippines need 19 votes, Indonesia need 50 Indonesian’s votes and India need 239 Indian’s votes.
Each countries populations: Singapore 5 million, Malaysia 27 million, Vietnam 87 million, Philippines 87 million, Indonesia 234 million, India 1120 million
Since Singapore is the richest and most charitable country, every Singaporeans don’t have the problem to donate at least SGD$0.60.
Singapore also had done a great idea by choosing on Hady Mirza instead of Taufik Batisah. Almost all of the other countries are putting their “best of the best” idol. As most of you had said that Taufik has become a mature/respectful artist, I’m doubt that Taufik will win the Asian Idol.
The morale of the story: Small Rich Country + Least Favorite = Asian Idol
All the Idols are winners, no doubt about it. Hady Mirza has done his best. I’m mostly impressed with the Indian Idol’s Abhijeet Sawant.
Anyway Congratulation Singaporeans!

This is an excellent analysis of what could have happened. I wonder how many votes were actually sent and from what countries. $0.60 per sms is very expensive for countries like the Philippines and Indonesia.
In fact in the Philippines, the show actually lost money because not enough people were voting.
I personally give this whole Idol business ZERO more years because I think it has become a very serious and unfunny joke, especially after last season’s Singapore final 12 of which most couldn’t sing at all.
For both Singapore Idol 1 & 2.. each competitions received more than 1 million SGD$0.50 votes. So it is a good business here.

Please take me out from the Singaporean count.
I really don’t understand the idol business and can’t remember who is the Singapore idol until today.
I will never support this type of show. Not a single cent from me, even I can afford to spend money.
the comment up there is quite true and it is good for singaporean. i mean if we talk about money singaporean will win. no doubt about it. if miss universe or miss world were choosen by sms. they too will win. isnt it? but sorry thats not the case. Hady mirza is good as a singapore idol. i voted him too. but in asian idol, i doubt about it. I dont really believe about this Idol business, where the big bucks went?
haha even if s’pore is rich enuff, i doubt alot of s’poreans even bothered watching the show that two nights let alone vote..
We don’t need each and every Singaporeans to vote to win the Asian Idol. Just a thousand of die-hard Hady Mirza’s fans will do it since population size is removed.
I know most of the ping.sg members don’t watch TV’s show, they most probably watch sex related sites. I wonder how they can blog about Asian Idol but never even watched it?
Voting for an idol is usually an emotional issue, why else you hear all that hysterical screamings when their idol appears and the obsession that borders upon madness? Cold logical mathematics usually are thrown out of the window. So to generalize the Asian Idol voting to say that this is exactly how the voters vote, is very illogical despite the logical maths. I believe some voters would be impressed, illogically, with another Asian Idol, who is not their countyrman. They would cast their votes for him, since they have voted for their own countryman and would not feel guilty that they had preferred another to their own.
Maths and emotions aside, Hady Mirza is worthy of the win….because he has qualities that can sustain a following in the other asian countries, he can be an inspiring Asian Idol!
I agree with Raylite.
I was definitely intrigued to leave my 2 cents worth here after reading all the comments given.
Being rich does not give you the advantage of winning the idol competition.
But when half of the Asians come out with a stupid, illogical theory that by voting for a contestant of the least talent and from a very small populated country, that will suffice for Hady to win.
Come to think of it, is it still Hady’s or the Sporeans’ fault?
Afterall, everyone wants their own countryman to win. Regardless of whether they are from Spore, Msia or Indo.
And yes, the Idol series is a singing competition but i think we are all aware that the ablitity to sing at the top of your voice is not the first requirement to win. When it involves voting, it means that the winner is one who appeal to the audience. Who can grab the audiences attention. The one with the x-factor. Don’t you all think so?
And i still don’t get why is everyone (well, mostly they are from you-know-where) is so uptight with Hady’s victory. And mind you, this is not the first blog i found that speaks ill of Hady and Spore.
Or is it the easiest way for your blog to gain popularity?
Again, being rich is not an advantage.
In case you are not aware, spore’s voting cost is quite expensive.
SORE LOSER!
